The adoption process for Ruff Riders Rescue involves an adoption
questionnaire, reference checks, discussion about the potential adoptive
home, an adoption contract and fee, and a home visit .
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and we
would like to stress that this is a necessary part of rescuing and
re-homing our dogs. Once we rescue an animal it is our responsibility to
ensure that we place it in a home that is equipped and committed to caring
for the pet for the rest of his/her natural life.
Please understand that filling out an adoption questionnaire or complying
with any of our approval procedures in no way guarantees the acceptance of
an adoption. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant for any reason,
at our discretion.
ADOPTION STEPS:
STEP 1: Filling Out an Adoption Questionnaire.
This gives us information about your home-life and helps us to match you
with a suitable companion. If a positive match is not currently available,
this questionnaire also allows us immediate access to your information to
compare with incoming dogs or refer you to another rescue that may have a
suitable match.
The thoroughness of our questionnaire is meant to aid us in our attempt to
find the best homes for our dogs and the best dog for you. Our intention
is not to be nosey.
STEP 2: Meeting with Us.
Once you contact Ruff Riders Rescue and
fill out a questionnaire, we will schedule an appointment to introduce you
to the dog you would like to meet. During this meeting, we will discuss in
detail your questionnaire and go over any additional questions or concerns
we may have so that we are certain you and the dog of your choice are a
good match.
STEP 3: Home Visit and
Adoption Contract.
Hooray! A match has been made and we
are now ready to arrange a home visit, sign the contract, and personally
deliver your new canine companion.
A home visit is to confirm that you do have a physical environment that is
safe for a dog and that you are comfortable with a dog in your home. In
most cases, a home visit is performed at the same time we deliver your new
best friend. Should we find the environment unsafe, the dog will return to
the rescue until the necessary steps have been taken to make your home dog
friendly. But, don't worry, we will give you information about dog
proofing your home prior to our visit.
Finally, we require that you sign our
adoption contract and pay a $225.00 adoption fee
which includes a microchip, up-to-date vaccinations and de-worming. We are a non-profit
organization and this fee aids with the cost of veterinary care, food and
other pet supplies, and shelter and boarding fees.
In most cases our dogs are already spayed or neutered however, if a dog is
being placed unaltered due to age (too young) or a physical condition then
we require the adopter to leave a $100 deposit which will be refunded upon
presentation of a Certificate of Sterility for the dog.
